Andromeda has started collision with our Milky - way! || Astronomy

Collision of Galaxies

Andromeda has a diameter of 2,20,000 light-years which is twice the diameter of our Galaxy. Andromeda also has more then 1 trillion stars twice the number of stars in our Milky- way galaxy. Andromeda is located 2.5 million light years from us. At the speed of 120 kilometer per second, Andromeda is approaching our Milky - way galaxy and will collide in 4.5 billion years.

All the galaxies have a big spherical Halo which is an envelope of gases covering the entire galaxy. Andromeda also has a very large Halo which stretches up to 2 million light years.

Recent research shows that the Halo of Andromeda and Milky - way are in a collision and both galaxies are pressing each other.
